Abstract


Antioxidants are compounds that inhibit lipid peroxidation by interfering with the chain reaction of peroxidation and I or by scavenging reactive oxygen radicals. (J?)

The present study was aimedJ with primary objectiveJ at


estimating the role of some antioxidants namely vitamin A & C in cases of threatened abortion with regard to the outcome of pregnancy during the follow up period.

The total number of cases was 50 cases classified into two groups, study group: 40 pregnant women complaining of threatened abortion and control group: 10 healthy females with early pregnancy. Gestational age varied between 8-12 weeks gestation.

Ultrasonography to assess fetal viability, gestational age &

excluding cervical incompetence was done.

Serum vitamin. A using fluorometric method. <95) & serum vitamin C using laboratory tests. <96) was estimated in all cases of both groups.

Follow up was done upto the end of 2nd trimester. We found in, the study group, that: -
