PANCREATIC DISTURBANCES IN TYPHOID FEVER

Abstract


Enteric fever is a bactraem ic disease and the organisms have been shown to involve any organ.

The pancreas is one of the organs that may be affected by S. typhi or through endotoxins. Some clinical manifestations of pancreatitis were noticed during the clinical course of the disease.

The study were conducted on 50 patients admitted to shebin EI­ Kom fever hospital.• The patients were selected from the cases with febrile illness •and positive bacterlogoical diagnosis of enteric fever & with abdominal symptoms as abdominal pain, nusea, vomiting, diarrhoea, or constipation.

The cases were matched with 25 control.


All. patients and controls were subjected to complete history with st1:ess on fever, headache, nusea, vomiting, abdominal pain & diarrhea, full clinical examination with stress on temperature, liver, spleen, epigastric tenderness.

Urine analysis, stool analysis, complete blood picture, liver function tests, blood culture for detection of salmonella infection and repeated when negative, widal test, pancreatic amylase & lipase and abdominal ultrasonography.
