Abstract

venh•icular (LV) diastolic dysfunction has been reported in the sub acute and late phase after myocardial infarction and it is becoming increasingly clear that abnormalities of diastolic function during acute myocardial infarction (AMI) have a major role in affecting the prognosis.
In the past decade, Doppler echocardiography has been accepted as a
non invasive safe and rapid alternative to cardiac catheterization for assessment of left ventricular (LV) diastolic function..

:However, because of the opposing effects of V relaxatio.q and orhpliance on . the transmitral filling pattern, a nonn I appearing mitral filling pattern may be seen espite impairement f rel atidn •and

Two indices which aim at correcting the E wa'te velocities for the \

confounding relaxation are the color M-mode LV flow \propagation

velocity (FPV) and the early diastolic tissue Doppler limaging i (TDI)
mitral annulus velocity (Em wave). . • \ •. . . j

The objectives of the present Study were itl1erefore to investigate the

association between color M imode FPV and TI Em after first

myocardial infarction (MI) and to assess the prognostic value of the

techniques.
The present study included thirty two patients with the diagnosis of acute first MI, 26 patients were males and 6 patients were females.
