“Dispersion Modeling Study of Power plant station emissions in Greater Cairo”

Ahmed Ibrahim El-Shahat Salem;

Abstract

The dispersion of SO2 and NOx from power plants in Cairo Namely Cairo South (Helwan), Shoubra El-khiema, Cairo North and Cairo west has been studied using the stack power plant parameters, emissions and metrological data.
The study includes three chapters: Introduction and literature survey, Methodology. Results and Discussion and References. Also has an Abstract, English and Arabic summaries.
Chapter 1: Introduction and literature survey
This chapter includes two parts. The first part introduces to the different types of power stations in Egypt and the different types of emissions associated with them. The second part reviews the pervious relevant works published on the emissions, meteorology and modeling of the dispersion of the emissions from power stations.
Chapter 2: Methodology
In this study different type of data as: power station stack characteristics and emissions (exit gas velocity, wind speed at stack height, internal stack diameter, external stack diameter, exit velocity stack heat emission rate using mazout, stack heat emission rate using natural gas, SO2 emission rate, NO2 emission rate, NO2 (NG) emission rate, flow rate in NG, low rate in mazout,) are used. The metrology data from The Egyptian meteorological authority processed by MM5 model (temperature- relative humidity- wind direction- wind speed- stability classes) are also used. Standardized Gaussian model equations are used to calculate the ground level concentration dispersed from the stacks in the prevailing wind direction.
