Abstract

. This thesis was done to correlate perinatal risk factors to incidence of periventricular-intraventricular hemorrhage by cranial ultrasonography. The study was done on 30 premature infant from Kasr El-Aini premature intensive care unit, ranged from 28 W to 34 W gestational age and 900 gm to 1450 gm birth weight and subjected to perinatal history, full systemic and local examination and cranial ultrasound.

. .
.Our results showed that their is a very good relation. between incidence ofPV-IVH and perinatal risk factors as Apgar score 1st min <8 (90%), PROM (94.4%), NVD (95%) cephalic presentation (72.7%), breech presentation (100%), obstetric trauma (100%) twin delivery (75%), decreased birth weight and gestational age.

We conclude that preterm infants, subjected to perinatal risk factors are more susceptible to PV-IVH as diagnosed and follow-up by cranial ultrasound and some recommendations offered for prevention and management of PV-IVH to decrease morbidity and mortality.
