SYNTHESIS OF SOME POLYFUSED HETEROCYCLES RELATED TO QUINOLINE

Abstract

The work in this thesis involves the synthesis and some reactions of a variety of heterocyclic compounds related to thienoquinoline moiety. These new heterocycles includes pyrimidothieno-

quinoline, imidazothienoquinoline, triazinothienoquinoline, triazolopyrimidothienoquinoline, ) tetrazolopyrimidothienoquinoline, imidazopyrimidothiennoquinoline, imidazotriazenothieno-

quinoline, triazolotriazinothienoquinoline, pyrazoloquinoline and pyrimidopyrazoloquinoline derivatives.

The starting material used in all these syntheses was 3-cyano-4-methylquinolin-2(1H)-one

185 which could be transformed in a multi-step reaction into the key intermediate 3-amino-4-

methyl-2-substituted thieno [2,3-b] quinolines 190a-i, 199, 200, 202. The presence of the amino group of the intermediate 190a-i in a position next to the substituent R was advantageous for building up a variety of heterocycles fused to the thienoquinoline moiety using the proper reactions.

In what follows there is a brief account on the synthesis of each class of these heterocycles.
