COMPARATIVE STUDY BETWEEN THE RESULTS OF THREAD TECHNIQUE AND RADICAL EXCISION OF DORSAL WRIST GANGLIA
AOSTAFA MOHAMED HAMOUDA SHOHIEB;
Abstract
Ganglia are the most common soft tissue tumours in the hand
I
and are defined as thin-walled cystic tumours with viscous jelly-like
contents (like s novial fluid). A tumour which is almost invariable in contact with a rlbrous joint capsule or fibrous tendon sheath.
The etiolgy has been disputed; traumatic causation have been claimed to cauke rent in joint capsule or tendon sheath from which ganglia originatb; however a Jot of cases deny trauma (about 50%).
The colones!site of ganglia appearance is the dorsum of the
I
wrist where they cause pain with wrist motion beside cosmetic
complaint (spedially from ladies).
llrere arl numerous methods in the management of ganglia. This means that the1 are difficult to manage successfully. In this study we did comparat+ study between tlre results of thread technique and radical excision of dorsal wrist ganglia and we found that; although thread techniqw is a simple method (no need for tourniquet or anaesthesia), iwas followed by a much higher rate of complications, mainly infectidn (26.7%) was 0% in ganglionectomy and recurrence (73.33%) was 0% in ganglionectomy.
