Abstract


4. Parasitic infections were more prevalent among school age children [primary school (54.9%) and preparatory school age (54.8%)] than preschool age children (38%).
5. The prevalence of parasitic infections was higher in males

(54.8%) thanin females ( 44.3%).

6. There was a significant difference in prevalence of parasites between children living in rural areas (52%) and children living in urban areas (40%).
7. Anaemia was reported 111 62.5% of investigated parasitically infected children and in 36% of non infected children. The prevalence of anaemia among children with one parasite was
57% while among children with 2 or 3 parasites was 77% and the ditTerence was statistically significant.
8. Infection with schistosomes species was mostly by

S.mansoni (2A%) while S.haematobium were detected in 0.47%.

9. The sensitivity of FOE test in detecting CSA in urine was

96.61% with specificity of 77.8%, positive predictive value, 87.5%

and negative predictive value 93.3%.

I O.The sensitivity of FOE test in detecting CSA in serum was

89.7% with specificity of 83.3%, positive predictive value 89.7%

and negative predictive value 83.3%.
I I. The IHA test for detection of schistosome antibodies showed sensitivity of 96.6%, specificity 72.2%, positive predictive value 84.8% and negative predictive value 92.9%.
