Propagation of Very High Frequency (VHF) Signal in Non-Ionized Media

Abstract
The object of this thesis ts to . study wave• propagation of very high frequency (VHF). The VHF signal ts selected for its •importance in communications and
broadcasting fields.
The signal from

towards Cairo (100 . km). The media of
propagation are cultivated lands. This signal (196.25 . :MHz) suffers some attenuation during propagation, due to variations of many parameters such as atmospheric pressure, relative humidity, temperature and winds. This parameters greatly
vary from season to season.
To record the variation • of this signal, the data recording system 1s used. This system is composed of field strength meter, • analog to digital converter (AID), and microcomputer. The data recording system records the VHF signal values during the broadcasting hours each second and calculates the mean, maxtmum and minimum value during 5 minutes. These three received values are stored directly in the microcomputer floppy diskette. This is done by preparing a special software. •
By using these data, the statistical properties of the propagated VHF signal were calculated.
