Abstract

This study consists of two parts : the in vitro study and the clinical evaluation
In the in vitro study sixty extracted human single rooted teeth were used . The crowns of all selected teeth were cut off at the cementa enamel junction and instrumentation ofthe root canals were done using k- type file and the coronal portion of the canal was flared using. Hedstrome file.Sodium hypochlorite solution 2.5%was used as an irrigant solution during and after root canal preparation.according to the obturation technique the teeth were divided into two main test groups, the first group were obturated using the single cone technique while the canals of the second group were obturated using the basic lateral condensation technique . each group were subdivided into two equal subgroups according to the sealer material used .
Zinc oxide eugenol was used as root canal sealer in subgroupAwhile glass ionomer was the sealer material used in subgroup B. All obturated roots were coated with two layers of nail polish except the apical two millimeters and immersed in
2.5%methylene blue . After two weeks the nail polish was removed and all roots were split into two halves .
Linear dye penetration was measured in millimeters with a stereolight microscope, leakage was calculated for each root separately .Statistical analysis of variance was performed to determine
the significance of data.
