SCREENING FOR BRUCELLA ANTIBODIES AMONG FEMALES WITH REPRODUCTIVE FAILURE

Abstract
This study involved 180 females who had reproductive failure. They were classified into 3 groups:
Group I abortion group (125 females). Group II IUFD (intra uterine fetal death group) (30 females). Group III preterm delivery group 25 females and Group IV 41 females with normal delivary as a control group.
Those females were admitted to the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Assiut University Hospital during the period fromApril1999 and April2000.
Those females were subjected to
(1) Complete history taking and clinical examination.
(2) Serological tests for brucella included Rose Bengal Test
(RBT) and ELISA test.
•The aim of this study is to find a possible relationship between brucella infection in our locality and reproductive failure.
The results showed that only 5 cases among 180 cases of reproductive failure had positive serology for acute brucella infection by both Rose Bengal test and ELISA. Two of these cases had abortion. Other two cases had IUFD and the last case had a preterm delivery.
