FATIGUE BEHAVIOR OF SURFACED C45 AND 42CRMO4 STEELS

Abdulgader Ameen Hezam Sayid;

Abstract

This study presents fatigue behavior of C45 and 42CrMo4 steels surfaced by Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding technique using filler ER80S-B2 in term of fatigue life compared to their unsurfaced base steels. Fatigue life was studied through rotary bending fatigue test at two stress levels.
Specimens of surfaced C45 steel showed improved fatigue life compared to the unsurfaced specimens. However, specimens of surfaced 42CrMo4 steel showed reduction in fatigue life compared to unsurfaced specimens.
