Prevalence and Management Outcome of Pulmonary Tuberculosis in Qena Chest Hospital from 2011 to 2016

Abstract


This study was done in QENA Chest Hospital in the period from January 2011 to December 2016 depending on data collection from records of the patients who were admitted in the hospital during this period. This study aimed at studying the prevalence and management outcome of pulmonary tuberculosis in patients admitted to QENA Chest Hospital during the period 2011-2016.
Data was collected and analyzed and the following was found:
Total number of pulmonary TB cases was 266 cases. Male patients counted for 160, (60.2%) cases while female cases counted for 106, (39.8%).
Number of sputum positive cases was 182 (68.4%) while sputum negative cases was 84 (31.6%).
Regarding age groups number of cases was the highest in the age group 20-30 years old (30.1%), followed by age group 50-60 years old (20.3%), then age group 30-40years old (19.5%), then age group 40-50 years old (11.3%). The lowest occurrence was in the age group more than 70 years old (3.4%), followed by the age group less than 20 years old (7.5%), then age group 60-70 years old (7.9%).
Regarding marital status the highest percent present in married patients (68.4%) followed by the single cases (18.8%) then widowed cases (7.9%) and the lowest percent in divorced cases (1.9%) then widower cases (3.0%).
Regarding education level number of cases was highest in cases with secondary education (47.0%) then not educated cases (20.3%) and the lowest was in cases with tertiary education (12.8%), then cases with primary education (19.9%).
