Thrombosis Risk Factors In antiphospholipid Positive Rheumatoid Arthritis Patients

Maha Ahmed Ahmed EI-Serwy;

Abstract

APS is one of the major causes of acquired thrombophilia. It is likely that other factors must act in concert with apl antibodies to cause thrombosis in APS since some of them with persistently elevated antibody levels suffer thrombosis episodically, whereas others never suffer from. this complication.

Recent reports confirmed increased concentration of APL antibodies in patients with RA, resulting in an increased risk of different vascular diseases, including arterial or venous thrombosis and vasculitis.

Low levels of free proteinS in some patients with apl positive suzzests its possible involvement in mechanisms causing an increased risk of thrombosis.

The aim of our study is to investigate plasma level of total and free protein S, protein C, serum fibrinogen level and antithrombin III activity in ad-positive compared to ad negative RA patients.

Our study was carried out on 40 subjects divided into 10 healthy control and 30 patients with RA.
