Effect of Different Environmental Factors and Radiation on Bioremediation of Acid Mine Drainage by Sulfate Reducing Bacteria

Naglaa Mohamed Abdelaal;

Abstract

Heavy metals containing wastewaters which characterized by low pH and high concentrations of sulfate and metals are the most important environmental hazards facing the industry field. Consequently, there is a necessity for an economical heavy metal bioremediation strategy, especially for developing countries, for protection of the environment. Therefore, the present work focused on treatment of metal containing wastewaters especially with low pH by acid metal tolerant SRB. The studied heavy metals used in this study were (Cu, Ni, Zn, Co, Fe) as a model of the most toxic heavy metals found in the wastewaters.
