Rational Design and Synthesis of Cell Penetrating Peptide Modulators of Signal Transduction Events in Cancer Cells

Shaimaa Mahdy Mohamed Osman;

Abstract

The wide spectrum of peptides activity marks them as a class of compounds of significant interest in areas from molecular biology to medical chemistry. The delivery of bioactive molecules by peptides seems to be a significant technology better than many popular delivery agents. Cell penetrating peptides (CPPs) are somewhat short and polycationic in nature and have high abilities to cross plasma cell membranes, so that they are greatly used in delivering of biomolecules and drugs inside the cells. QSAR analysis technique identified CPPs within many natural proteins which are a rich source with polycationic CPP sequences.
Cell penetrating peptides, also called “Protein-Transduction Domains (PTDs)”, have been considered as an effective new strategy for the modulation of intracellular events. Many of studies have demonstrated that efficient protein-transduction domains (PTDs) can be used as a peptide vector to deliver biologically active molecules from outside to inside the cell.
