Serum Cystatin C Level as an Accurate Novel Marker of Kidney Function and GFR in Elderly with Low Muscle Mass
Aya Mostafa Sayed Mostafa;
Abstract
KD is an important and prevalent health problem, which is common among the elderly population; due to many age related changes that occur in the kidneys over the years and the prevalent risk factors as diabetes and hypertension.
CKD is silent and asymptomatic at earlier stages and quite often undiagnosed.
There are many other risk factors associated with the risk and progression of CKD as smoking, obesity, nephrotoxic drugs and hyper-uricemia.
It is evident that early detection and appropriate management of CKD retard the rate of kidney function decline significantly, by delaying progression of the kidney damage as controlling risk factors.
