ANWAR TAWFEK AMIN ALI;

Abstract

Screening with colonoscopy is predicted to result in an increase in life expectancy. In this study colonoscopy has been done for 117 of symptomatizing cases. 90/117 are males and 27/117 are females more than
75% are above the age of 30 years. 52% of the cases presented with
bleeding per rectum, 21 case (17%) presented with diarrhoea and other cases presented with non bleeding abdominal symptoms (constipation, pain, altered bowel habits). 30 cases revealed to be colonic cancer of which
10 cases of thoses presented with bleeding per rectum.
The study showed that 18 cases of colonic cancer are males and 12 cases are females that the ratio is 3/2. Only 16% of the cases have their caecum intubated with the colonscope which is low record comparable to other studies.
The study showed that infammatory bowel diseases are of high incidence (30/117 cases) and as inflammatory bowel diseases have high incidence of colonic cancer, surveillance of patients with inflammatory bowel disease is strongly supported
