Abstract
There has been a marked reduction in the use of blood components for coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery, because of improvements in surgical techniques, anesthesia, and blood-conservation techniques. Nevertheless, the rate remains high; according to recent reports. The blood transfusion itself has several risks. The most common are infectious disease transmission and transfusion reactions.
40 patients were included in our study they were divided equally into two groups:
- Group A (study group)
20 patients were subjected to our Multimodality program
- Group B (control group)
20 patients were subjected to the routine perioperative management
There were no statistical differences between both groups as regards age, sex, and other preoperative data, as this was considered in the candidate selection.
We employed our blood conservation program with the study group, pre, intra and postoperatively. Including preoperative stimulation of erythropoiesis, intra operative autologous donation, low
