Abstract

• In this work, studying the immune response and protection efficacy on guinea pigs vaccinated with B. melitensis Rev.1 and B. abortus Strain 1 9 vaccines and challenged with homologous and heterologous strains was done.
• 4 groups ofguinea pigs were used in homologously and heterologously infected animals. In homologously infected animals first group was vaccinated with B. melitensis strain Rev.1 and challenged with virulent B. melitensis strain 16M 49 days later. The
2nd group was vaccinated with B. abortus strain 19 and challenged

with virulent B. abortus strain 544. In heterologously infected animals, the first group was vaccinated with B. melitensis strain
Rev. I and challenged with virulent B. abortus strain 544, the second group was vaccinated with B. abortus strain 19 and challenged virulent B. melitensis strain 16M. 2 groups were infected each with virulent B. melitensis strain 16M and virulent B. abortus strain 544 without vaccination and left as control.
• Serological testing was carried out using Rose bengal plate test, Rivanol, MAT and ELISA tests on sera collected from different groups pre and post challenge.
