PROCNOSTIC VALUE OF ELECTRORETINOCRAM IN CASES OF RHECMATOCENOUS RETINAL . DETACHMENT

Amr Saad Mohamed Bessa;

Abstract

The aim of this work was to evaluate the electroretinographic changes m eyes with rhegmatogenous retinal detachment, in a trial to assess its value in predicting the functional success of surgery. The study was conducted on
20 eyes of 20 patients suffering frommcomplicated rhegmatogenous retinal detachment ranging in age from 21-64 years.

Every case was subjected to detailed history taking, thorough clinical and ophthalmological examination including, cycloplegic refraction, determination of absolute visual acuity, measurement of intraocular pressure, anterior segment examination, detailed fundus examination ad perimetry using Goldman perimeter to examine central and peripheral fields.

The cases were tested for full field flash ERG using a standard ISCEV protocol. The apparatus used was EPIC-2000 version 3.1 (LKC Technologies) with a Ganzfield bowl.

Conventional retinal detachment surgery; cryoapplications over retinal breaks and degenerations with or without evacuation of SRF, scleral buckling and intraocular gas tamponade when needed, was performed.
