Comparative study between Standard lymphocytotoxicitiy cross match and flowcytometric cross match in renal transplantation

Abstract

Organ transplantation is becoming increasingly successful as a life enchancing and technology advanced form of therapy instead of being an experimental and life saving emergency procedure.
The first successful renal transplant was performed at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in 1954. Subsequently, advances in histocompatibility testing and immunosupperssive drug therapy made renal transplantation a clinical reality in the 1960s.
Analysis of histocompatibility antigens of donor and recipient allows a determination of the degree of foreignness between the two individuals, thus serving to predict the out come of a transplant procedure.
The two most histocompatibility systems m man are the ABO blood group system and HLA system. Chosen the donor and recipient on the basis histocompatibility antigen prior to kidney transplantation had improved the success rate of kidney transplantation, and episodes of acute rejection decreased after transplantation.
