Therapeutic Contract in Clinical Practice of Psychiatry

Abstract


The doctor-patient relationship is one of the most important issues that affect clinical and health outcome through increasing compliance of the patient to the recommended treatment. The possibility of application of the therapeutic contract to decrease rate of relapse in psychiatric disorders was studied.

Compliance is defined as the extent to which a person' s behavior coincides with health advice. The importance of studying compliance in all areas of medicine and especially in psychiatric practice is due to its importance in affecting health outcome.

Noncompliance has different type that can be distinguished:

1. Treatment refusal.

2. Treatment discontinuation.

3. Treatment irregularities.

4. Treatment insistence.
