Abstract

In the present thesis, different types of zeolites (Na-X, Na-Y, Na-HS and Na-P) were prepared via hydrothermal method form natural cheap kaolin. These zeolites were characterized using different analytical and spectro- photometric techniques, such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray fluorescence (XRF) to prove their formation. The characterization results showed that, Na-P zeolite possesses the lowest Silica/Alumina ratio (Si/Al) which leads to higher cation exchange capacity. Therefore, it was chosen to undergo the cation exchange process employing different cations such as (Zn2+, Cu2+ and their mix) to offer various functions, then these cation exchanged P-zeolite were characterized using XRD, SEM and XRF. Physical properties of the different types of zeolites and cation exchanged P-zeolite (i.e. specific gravity, oil absorption and pH) were estimated. After that, the applications of different zeolite types and cation exchanged P-zeolite were done in different multifunctional paints as follow;
