Then, the most appropriate types of indicators were selected to assess the sustainability of cities from global experiences in the field of sustainable development. The country's efforts to achieve sustainable development in the Egyptian case were reviewed in light of the programs it had undertaken in this field.
An applied study has been done on the Egyptian reality of 215 existing cities and their classification according to the measurement indicators used and the extent to which their classification relates to the characteristics of the community. It was evident that the existing Egyptian cities have decreased their sustainability due to lack of observance of the principles of achieving sustainability. And economic indicators are the most important factors affecting the sustainability of cities. There is a correlation between groups of cities classification according to the level of sustainable development and characteristics of grouping (size - function - regional role).
