Abstract


Adrenaline is widely used as an irrigation or subconjunctival injection during some ophthalmic surgery when it is important that the pupil is widely dilated.



The conjunctiva is very permeable and the absorption of drugs through it can be both rapid and effective. A proportion of instilled drug may go down the nasolacrimal duct into the nose and absorbed rapidly into the systeJ?iC circulation producing systemic effects.



The aim of the present work was to evaluate the effect of three methods of ocular adrenaline administration during ophthalmic surgery under general anaesthesia on the haemodynamic responses, cardiac arrhythmia, blood sugar,
1: plasma potassium and plasma catecholamines levels.
