Abstract

A total of 58 isolates were isolated !J•om 23 patients with infected socket. The microorganisms were identified were found to belong to different species of microbial oral flora and pathogens. Of these isolates,
34 were gram +ve and 24 were gram -ve. The aerobic organisms were 26 while the anaerobic were 32. Ten candidates ofthese isolated species were used to test the efficiency of the antimicrobial activity of the BAG.

BAG contains oxides of calcium, sodium, phosphorus and silicon in a proportion that provides the material of surface. activity and concomitantly with the property of forming a strong bond with bone.
BAG has been tested as bone substitute in different clinical situation.

In an aqueous environment, Ca

, Na

, Po'•, Si4

+ are released from

glass, resulting in a rise in pH.

The antimicrobial activity of BAG against the isolated microorganisms was tested and the results showed that BAG has a good colonization capacity and has no bactericidal activity.
