MANDIBULAR BONY CHANGES IN CHRONIC RENAL FAILURE PATIENTS

AMR MAMDOUH KAMEL SHEBAITA;

Abstract

Chronic renal failure is a chronic progressive disease that is treated at the beginning of the disease by conservative means. Once the nephrons are incapable of performing their function, dialysis is the choice •of treatment till a proper transplant is performed to the patient.

The importance of dental care for patients undergoing dialysis must assume high priority for the possibility of an oral infection causing serious complications. Moreover, dentists need a better understanding of the problem of chronic renal failure especially in the presence of dialysis allowing better handling of these patients as some modification and even alteration in the protocols of dental procedures might be needed.

For these reasons, this study was designed to investigate the osseous changes in the mandible in dialyzed patients, its relation to the duration of dialysis and its correlation with biochemical, hormonal, enzymatic and hematologic investigations.
