INSULIN LIKE GROWTH FACTOR-1 AND BINDING PROTEIN 3-TN CHILDREN WITH LIVER DISEASES
ASHARF ALBERT GARAS ELMEERY;
Abstract
GH, IGF-1, and IGFBP-3 were studied in 74 children with liver
disease compared to 55 normal children (control). A variable degree of severity and progression of the liver condition was noticed in our patients and according to Child-Pugh score the cases were divided into 2 groups.
*Group (I): Children with mild liver disease (Child A)
*Group (II): Children with severe liver disense (Child 13 & C).
Each child was subjected to complete clinical examination and the following investigations were performed:
CBC, liver function tests, viral markers (IIBsAg, HCV-ab), hormonal
assay (GH, IGF-1, IGFOP-3) and abdominal ultmsonogmphy.
Group (I) including Children with mild liver disease (Child A) --•- - This group was further subdivided into 2 subgroups according to
their ages.
*Subgroup (a): children above 4 years to 9 years
*Subgroup (b): children above 9 years to 13 years.
Group (II) including Children with severe liver disease (Child B & C)
This group was further subdivided into 4 subgroups according to their ages.
*Subgroup (a): children from birth to 4 years
*Subgroup (b): children above 4 years to 9 years
*Subgi•oup (c): children above 9 years to 13 years
*Subgroup (d): children above 13 years.
. A positive correlation was established between IGF-1 and age in all groups.
