A STUDY OF SERUM LEVELS OF NITRIC OXIDE AND VASOACTIVE INTESTINAL POLYPEPTIDE IN PATIENTS WITH GASTROESOPHAGEAL REFLUX DISEASE
Mohamed Abdel Moghni Mostafa;
Abstract
TJ1e current study was carried out on selected 50 patients
wi\h GE.:(}O males, 20 femalesj-and 10 healthy controls(ri males, ,4,:feiples). The patientswere divided into five groups-
according to (Savary and Miller classification 1984). The.mean" ; .

examination, pregnancy test, .and pelvi-abdoiriiiial I ultrasonography, serum NO and VIP levels assay, only for patient's group, upper gastrointestinal endoscopy or 24 hours ambulatory pH monitoring for those with normal upper endoscopy were done.
The results showed that serum NO and VIP levels were significantly higher in GERD patients than in the control group (P<0.05) for each. There was a significant positive correlation between grade of lower end-esophagi tis on one side and serum
level of NO ahd VIP on the other side (P < 0.01) for each and
also there was a significant positive correlation between S. VIP
and S. NO (P < 0.05).
