Abstract


Empty scrotum is a clinical term which used for non-scrotal testis. The non-scrotal testes can be classified into:-
(1) True undescended testis (Cryptorchidism). (2) Ectopic

testis . (3) Absent 'a)- Anorchidism or b)- Agenesis' . and

( 4) Retractile testis ( Pseudo-cryptorchidism

1987, Rajfer. 1992 and Kaplan,1993).

The problem of empty scrotum is cornmonly seen in the field of andrology. Crvptorcnioisrn or failure of the 1es1is 1o descend in1o 1he scrotum. represen1 one of the most cornrnon disorder in childhood (Kaplan. 1993 and Husmann and Levy,
1995).


Its incidence varies with different age groups. it was reported to be between l 7 .24 and 30.3 per cent in pre-mature newborn infants (Scorer and Farrington 19 7 7 and Berkowitz et ol.. l 993). In full-term newborn examined at birth it varied between 2.8 and 3. 7 per cent (Scorer and Farrington
1977 and Berkowitz et ol.. 1993). By the end of the first year of life and thereafter the incidence varied between O. 8 and l. l per cent (Scorer and Farrington, 1979; Elder. 198 7; Berkowitz et ol.. 1993 and Kiely . 1994).
