I Study of Serum Thrombopoietin Level in Different Grades of Liver Cirrhosis with and without thr rom bocytopenia
Ahmed Abd El-Azeez Abu-Shanab;
Abstract
Liver cirrhosis is a world-wide health problem of which viral hepatitis competes with schistosomiasis. Thrombocytopenia is the most frequent hematological abnormalities in patients with liver cirrhosis.
In this study we aim to determine the level of sTPO in patients with different grades of liver cirrhosis and to study the relationship between TPO level and presence or absence of thrombocytopenia.
This study was conducted on 50 patients from Menoufia University
• Hospital, suffering from liver cirrhosis caused by viral hepatitis with or
without schistosomiasis, as well as a control group of 10 age and sex
matched healthy adult individuals.
Patients were classified into two groups; thrombocytopenic group and non thrombocytopenic one. The first group is further classified according to Modified Child Classification into: 7 patients Child A, 7 patients Child
B and 16 patients Child C, The other group is also classified into 7
• patients Child A, 7 patients Child B and 6 patients Child C.
All included subjects under the study were submitted to the full history talking, thorough clinical examination, abdominal ultrasoriography, automated hemogram, liver function tests including determination of serum albumin, liver enzymes (ALT, AST, ALP), bilirubin and prothrombin time with detection of viral markers; HCV antibody and HB;,;Ag. Bone marrow aspiration to exclude central causes of thrombocytopenia .
