Thrombomodulin in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus and Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis

Abstract


This study aimed at determining serum TM level in SLE
& JRA patients and studying its correlation with clinical and laboratory parameters to see if it could be a good serological marker of disease activity.

Patients included in this study were regularly attending the Allergy and Immunology Clinic, Children's Hospital, Ain Shams University. They were 38 (76%) females and 12 (24%) males, their ages ranged from 5 to 18 years with a mean age of (14.30±4.84 yrs). They were divided into two groups; group I; included 20 SLE patients and group II; inCluded 30 IRA patients. Group III; the control group included 30 healthy age and sex matched individuals for comparison.


All patients included in the study were subjected to :
Thorough history taking and clinical examination, disease activity scoring, laboratory investigations including: CBC, ESR; complete urine analysis, semm ANA, anti DNA & C3 (for SLE patients only); RF & CRP (for JRA patients).


The results of our study showed the following :
Semm TM levels were significantly higher in SLE patients and JRA patients in comparison to control group. There was no significant difference between SLE and JRA patients.
