The role of Voiding Cystourethrography in detection of urological diseases in pediatrics

Samy Salim Mostafa Abdallah;

Abstract

Voiding cystourethrography (VCUG) is considered one of the most important tools in the assessment of the different urologic conditions in pediatrics as vesico-ureteral reflux and structural causes of urinary tract infection. The study is frequently requested for patients with lower urological symptoms as urine incontinence, dysuria, frequency and recurrent urinary tract infection.
Voiding cystourethrography (VCUG) shows the urinary bladder, urethra in different situations including early filling, full bladder, during voiding and post-voiding assessment. Water soluble low osmolar contrast is used to enhance the contrast. Radiation exposure is the main problem of this examination.
