Abstract


This retrospective study was designed to identify a series of demographic, clinical, laboratory and arrest characteristics associated with CPR and M.V outcome,that could serve as predictors of CPR and M.V.

The study included 170 critically ill pediatric patients (117 males and 53 females) undergoing CPR and/or M.V. Their ages ranged from 35 days to
12 years. In addition, 150 critically ill pediatric patients not needed CPR or

M.V, of matchable age, sex and diagnosis were considered as controls. Both studied patients and controls were classified into five groups according to their primary diagnosis.

Group I: Metabolic disorders Group II: Cardiovascular diseases. Groups III: Neurologic diseases. Group IV: ARDS
Group V: Respiratory diseases.


Both studied patients and controls were evaluated. The evaluation included demographic profile, some clinical data, assessment of some haematological and biochemical parameters, assessment of blood gas values and indices of oxygenation, in addition to assessment of the severity of illness and probability of death.
