“Comparison of Shear Bond Strength of Composite Resin Bonded to Enamel Surface of Primary Teeth Treated with Laser versus other Etching Techniques: An in vitro Evaluation”

Reem Essam AbdelFattah Elkady;

Abstract

Surface treatment is compulsory to create a reasonable bond between a tooth and resin composite. It can be ideally performed by entirely removal of the smear layer by the means of total-etch systems, or by incorporating the smear layer by the help of self-etch systems or by laser irradiation.
Hence, this in vitro study was carried out to assess the shear bond strength of composite resin bonded to primary enamel pretreated with Er,Cr:YSGG laser versus other etching techniques.
Fifty non carious primary molars were selected to prepare specimens for the study. Buccal and lingual surfaced were flattened and ground under copious water coolant to obtain a flat surface. Subsequently the surfaces were polished with 400 and 600 gritt sand paper to standardize the smear layer.
The prepared samples were randomly assigned to five different groups, 10 specimens in each group according to each etching method:
• Group I: nano-hybrid composite resin will be bonded to enamel of the facial surface using total etching mode
• Group II: nano-hybrid composite resin will be bonded to enamel of the facial surface using self-etching mode
• Group III: nano-hybrid composite resin will be bonded to enamel of the facial surface using laser etching mode
