Abstract
t was reported that there is a cause effect relationship between cigarette smoking and depression as multiple studies mentioned that tobacco use increases the risk of symptoms of depression (Boden et al., 2010; Mathew et al., 2017; Slomp et al., 2019).While, Some articles stated that depression symptoms or current major depression may exaggerate tobacco dependence, persistence and relapse due to increasing sensitivity to either acute negative mood or abstinence induced tobacco seeking behavior (Hogarth et al., 2017).
Tobacco is the most common form of nicotine. It is smoked most commonly in cigarettes, cigars, snuff, chewing, tobacco, and in pipes. The world health organization (WHO) estimates that there are 1 billion smokers worldwide who smoke 6 trillion cigarettes a year. The WHO also estimates that tobacco kills more than 3 million persons annually(Sadock, 2007).
