Comparative Study Between Caudal Block And Local Wound Infiltration In Inguinal Hernia Repair In Pediatric Patients
Tarek Atef Abdullah Hammouda;
Abstract
nguinal hernia repair surgery in pediatrics is one of the commonly performed surgical procedures which is associated with substantial postoperative pain and distress. Postoperative analgesia can be provided by a multimodal approachs includes opioids, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, paracetamol infusion and regional anesthetic techniques such as local infiltration, caudal block or peripheral nerve blocks.
Caudal block involves the introduction of local anesthetic into the caudal epidural space. It requires the child to be positioned appropriately and experienced anesthesiologist to administer under deep sedation or general anesthesia. It provides longer duration of analgesia than local wound infiltration.
