PARATHORMONE LEVEL IN NEONATAL CONVULSIONS
Abeer Abdel Lateef AI Agroudy;
Abstract
This study was carried out on I 8 neonates with neonatal convulsions and hypocalcemia .
PTH level in these infants proved to be high by a statistically significant value as compared to healthy neonates probably as a compensatory mechanism aiming to raise their
low. serum calcium.
It is recommended that PTH level should be estimated in both the neonate and the mother when a neonate suffers from hypocalcemia .
It should be also stressed that neonatal serum calcium can be affected by factors other than PTH level and that all possible investigations should be carried out to reach the exact aetiology of this hypocalcemia.
