Ahmed Mohammed Abdulhakim;

Abstract

Otitis media with effusion (OME) is a worldwide major health problem for both children and adult, who have a history of chronic eustachian tube dysfunction.
The causes of chronic OME are multi-factorial, including mucosal edema, muscular dysfunction, cartilage collapse and obstruction by a nasopharyngeal masses.
Intratympanic injection of long acting steroids has good effect in management of OME resistant to medical and surgical treatment.
Intratympanic injection of long acting steroids has superior effect and high rate of recovery over local nasal steroid spray.
Chronic OME is a common disease that needs more investigation, management and study of its multi factorial etiology that lead to variable outcomes of treatment modalities.
