Short Term Outcome of off Pump versus on Pump Coronary Artery Bypass Graft

Amr Elsayed Mohamed;

Abstract

ne of the most debated and polarizing issues in cardiac surgery has been whether coronary artery bypass grafting without the use of cardiopulmonary bypass or cardioplegia is superior to that performed with the heart-lung machine and the heart’s being chemically arrested.
Off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting surgery was developed in the hope of reducing perioperative complications related to the use of cardiopulmonary bypass and to the cross-clamping of the aorta.
In this study, sixty patients complaining of chronic ischemic heart disease needs for coronary artery bypass grafting.
Patients were divided into 2 groups:
Group 1:
Thirty patients underwent on pump coronary artery bypass graft.
Group 2:
Thirty patients underwent off pump coronary artery bypass graft.
There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups preoperatively regarding their age, sex, New York Heart Association classifications, comorbidities, ejection fraction and laboratory findings.
