ELECTROANALYTICAL STUDIES ON SOME ANTICANCER DRUGS

Abstract

The present work describes the use of stripping voltammetric techniques for the determination of some anticancer (5-Fluorouracil and I ,2,3,4 tetrahydro-carbazole). It was observed that the addition of traces of Cu(ll} or Cd(II) enhances the peak current of 5-Fiuorouracil very greatly. Also the complexes probably formed between 5-FU and

some metal ions were studied. TI1e other compow1d ( 1,2,3,4 tetrahydrocarbazole) was determined using glassy carbon electrode as a working electhde. The present investigation can be summarized as follow : -

(1) TI1e first chapter includes an introduction to stripping voltannnetric analysis, types of stripping analysis technique and the pramateres which may affect the stripping voltanunetric response. TI1e same chapter contains an introduction to the history and development of polarography from 1927 up to date. TI1e method and calculations which have been used to detennine the stability constants of the metal­ drug interactions are reported also in this chapter. Finally this chapter includes a literature smvey on the detennination of 5-Fluorouracil, 1.2.3.4- tetrahydrocarbazole and the metal ions (Cu(Il) and Cd(II)) selected for investigation. (2) The second chapter describes the preparation of the stock solutions and also describes the instnunents used in this work (apparatus, cell, electrodes) ... etc. Also, the chapter repotts the removal of oxygen for stripping voltarnrnetric studies. Finally this chapter contains procedures for preparation of the polorghraphic cell and the procedures for the pH-metric measurements.
