The role of Zinc supplementation as anti-inflammatory in prevalent Hemodialysis patients
Elham Atitallah Mansour;
Abstract
inc is the second most abundant trace element in the body next to iron. Zinc is anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant and essential for transcription and replication factors. It is also essential for normal spermatogenesis, sperm physiology, normal embryonic development, formation and function of immune system.
Causes of zinc deficiency: Inadequate intake, inadequate absorptions as in inflammatory bowel diseases (crohns-bacterial overgrowth) and increased loss as in pregnancy, high alcohol intake, exercising, chronic diarrhea.
Zinc deficiency is associated with immune deficiency characterized by impaired cell proliferation, abnormal T-cell function, defective phagocytosis, Abnormal increase in the cytokine expression which linked to increase the risk to many diseases as depression, Alzheimer's disease, schizophrenia and cancer. Another side effects of zinc deficiency (anemia, skin conditions such acne or eczema, abnormal smell and taste, depression, diarrhea and hair loss, vision lose, anorexia nervosa).
