HISTOLOGICAL, HISTOCHEMICAL AND IMMUNOHISTOCHEMICAL STUDY OF PLACENTA AND PLACENTAL BED IN NORMAL AND SOME COMPLICATED PREGNANCIES

Abstract

The role of placenta and placental bed in pathogenesis of a variety of pregnancy disorders has been recently investigated. The present work was introduced to compare the histological, histochemical and immunohistochemical features of the placenta and placental bed in normal and in some complicated pregnancies to find out the possible relationship between the changes occurred in placenta or placental bed (or both) and the - corresponding abnormality. Our objective also included the study of tissue fibronectin as a connective tissue protein secreted by many cells and plays a role in control of many vital cell functions as adhesion and . ' spreading. Fibronectin was also found to play a role in proper placentation and proper adaptation of maternal uterine vessels for normal physiological changes during pregnancy.

In this work fibronectin was stained by immunohisto- chemistry to reflect on idea about the aetiological attitude of certain complicated pregnancies compared with normal.
