A Comparative Study of the efficacy of preoperative of oral Pregabalin and placebo on acute Postoperative Pain After Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery

Mahmoud Ahmed Ibrahim Ahmed;

Abstract

ain that pursues coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery is usually associated with increased both recovery duration and hospital stay. Patient outcome could be worsened owing to large doses of opioids for pain control through over sedation, and prolonged mechanical ventilation. This study was designed to evaluate the effect of preemptive pregabalin on post CABG surgery pain control.
Instead of using opioids in high doses postoperatively, it may be more convenient to use unconventional analgesic methods that integrate with parenteral opioids after cardiac surgery endeavoring administered doses of opioids reduction. pregabalin are structural analogs of g-aminobutyric acid, which shows analgesic, anticonvulsant, and anxiolytic agent. Pregabalin is rapidly orally absorbed with bioavailability more than 90%, peak plasma levels achieved within 30 min to 2 h.
Pregabalin found to reduce the hyper excitability of dorsal horn neurons induced by studies suggested that pregabalin also has a significant analgesic effect on acute postoperative pain.
Pregabalin has been examined in cardiac surgery induced pain and confirmed that it reduces postoperative pain. So we compared the effects of adding these drugs on post operative pain control and tramadol consumption in coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) population.
