Abstract


emergence was not significantly affected when 90 Gray was applied to pupae as 2-day before adult eclosin.

2- Adult longevity was not significantly affected, it was also found tha both treated and untreated Medfly had lived similar .. period , •

3- Fecundity of normal Medfly females was not significantly affected when they were mated with males irradiated with 90 Gray as 2-day pupae before adult eclosion.

4- Fertility of irradiated males was significantly affected when they were mated with normal females, about 96.5% male sterility was obtained when a dose 90
Gray of gamma radiation was applied to pupae as 2-day before adult eclosion.

5- In competitiveness studies, males irradiated as pupae 1-day before adult eclosion were significantly more competitive than those males irradiated as 2-day before adult eclosion.

6- Gamma irradiation dosage of 90 Gray in air radiation dose 90 Gray in air considered to give sufficent sterility and to avoid the deterimental effects of higher dosages on adult longevity.
