Study the Value of Interleukin-6 As Diagnostic and Predictive marker of Cardiac Events in ST Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction

Taghreed Mohamed Fareed Othman Mohamed;

Abstract

Inflammatory biomarkers have been shown to be associated with and to predict the onset of cardiovascular events. The predictive value of these markers including interleukin-6 (IL-6) has been demonstrated for subjects with existing coronary artery disease (CAD) and apparently healthy individuals.
The aim of this study was to assess the diagnostic value of interleukin-6 compared to troponin I in ST segment elevation MI and to assess the predictive value of elevated interleukin 6 in mortality after ST segment elevation myocardial infarction.
This study was carried out on sixty patients presented with STEMI admitted in critical care unit department of Ain Shams university , who were subjected to full history taking including the demographic data, historical data for the present condition, cardiovascular risk factors as smoking, DM, HTN, IHD, other co-morbidities and drug history. Thorough clinical examination was carried out on every case including 12 lead ECG. The following laboratory investigations were also done and include Troponin I, CK-MB, IL-6.
