Comparative Study between Percutaneous Approach and Transurethral Approach for Treatment of Urinary Bladder Stones
Mahmoud Mohammed El Shahawy;
Abstract
rinary bladder stones are common in patients with bladder outlet obstruction, neurogenic bladder dysfunction, chronic bacteriuria, foreign bodies. (Lal et al., 2015)
The most common presenting symptoms of bladder stone are urine retention and terminal macroscopic hematuria. dysuria, and lower abdominal pain may also be present. (Nerli et al., 2017)
There are several procedures for treatment of bladder stones, including open cystolithotomy, endoscopic cystolithotripsy by (percutaneous or transurethral approach) and extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL). The choice of treatment method is determined by several factors like stone size and composition, the patient’s surgical history, comorbidities, costs and the availability of equipments (Jang et al., 2019).
In our study, we had compared (percutaneous approach using nephroscope with pneumatic lithotripser) and (transurethral approach using nephroscope with pneumatic lithotripser combined with meurmayer) to assess their outcome and effectiveness in managing large urinary bladder stones.
This study was carried out in the Urology Department of Ain Shams University hospitals, on 60 adult male patients who
