Arthrocentesis versus Arthroscopy in Treatment of Anterior Disk Displacement with Reduction of the Temporomandibular Joint: Systematic Review.

Fatma Mohamed Mohamed;

Abstract

n late 19th century, surgeons in all medical field adopted the idea of noninvasive techniques and minimally invasive one and considered both as good competitor to open surgery due to many advantages like low risk, less morbidity, no surgical scare, less time consuming and more preferred by patients. So, it was the techniques of choice by researchers in all fields, by example endoscopy and endoscopic equipment greatly improved in the last few decade and still improving and invading all medical branches.
Maxillofacial field and TMJ specialty were late in using minimally invasive techniques so we can see the time different between the first knee ARCOPY in early 19th and 1st. TMJ ARCOPY done by Ohinishi(76) in 1957 after around fifty year from 1st knee ARCOPY. Actually, minimally invasive techniques proved their efficiency in a lot of medical branches and became a standard techniques in a lot of fields. Concerning the efficacy, what about the efficacy of minimally invasive techniques in treatment of temporomandibular disorders? Especially internal derangement? Specially ADDwR? The topic of interest in our study as it is one of the most common TMD seen in the dental clinic.
