Usefulness of Transcutaneous Ultrasonography versus Computed Tomography in the Assessment of Cancer Larynx
Amina Mohamed Ahmed Farag;
Abstract
omputed tomography has been used as the gold standard tool for pre operative assessment of the extension, operability and prognosis prediction of cancer larynx exposing the patient to high radiation dose, though ultrasonography is being tested to give the same sensitivity with additional benefit of safe repeatability and dynamic assessment of vocal cords mobility.
The overall survival, disease free survival and laryngeal reservation are largely determined by the initial tumor stage at the time of the diagnosis.
A vast majority of these cancers are squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) for which tobacco smoking and alcohol consumption are important risk factors.
